About Help Save Dakota in New York

*Update on Dakota*: Dakota has already survived one surgery, and has been going to BluePearl Veterinary Hospital in New York for daily wound care and bandage changes. Dakota will undergo a skin graft surgery today, April 15th, and will need all the help, love and support she can get to heal through this additional procedure.

It's been a long road of recovery for Dakota and her family, but we're happy to share that she's in good spirits and has been healing well.

Her family said, "Dakota’s doing great, I feel like she’s doing better than we are! She seems to have her full energy back ,so we have to work harder to limit her jumping/playing. She now jumps in her travel bag when it’s time to take her on the train to the vet for daily wound care and bandage changes. We’re so grateful for all the help Frankie’s Friends has been for us! She’s thriving at home and healing so well. She may miss out on our annual Easter egg hunt (where I fill eggs with treats in our family’s yard), but we will now have a lifetime of Easter’s to spend with her, thanks to the wonderful care of Blue Pearl and your donations!"

8 month old Aussie puppy, Dakota, was attacked by an unleashed dog that jumped out of a parked car. Now she’s fighting for her life and needs your help!

They were only one step out of their building’s door on their usual afternoon stroll, when out of nowhere a dog jumped out of a parked car and ferociously latched onto poor little Dakota. Her dad held on to her for dear life and was eventually able to get her little body free, but unfortunately the damage had already been done. Dakota’s left side of her body had been ripped open and she’s suffering from a torn stomach, multiple severe wounds, and a punctured lung.

Dakota is being treated for her injuries by Surgical Specialist, Dr. Grossbard, DVM, DACVS at BluePearl Veterinary Hospital in Brooklyn, New York and has a long way to go. She’ll need extensive veterinary care to treat her injuries and save her life. The family has paid everything they can for Dakota’s first surgery and now needs your help to pay for the second surgery and continuation of the treatments needed to save their sweet puppy’s life.

Dakota’s mom said, “She is one heck of a fighter -the car owner with the dog that attacked Dakota disappeared and can't be found- please help my husband and I get Dakota home!

We got her Dakota three weeks before our wedding, she was clearly a part of our celebration. On our wedding day she was our flower girl and after our first dance we danced to “who let the dogs out” with Dakota and our other Aussie, Kobe.

A couple of months later both Andrew and I lost our jobs. I’ve been able to find temp work but we we’re just getting by before the incident! And this is why we need as much help as we can get!

A little about Dakota, well she's the sweetest girl and a velcro dog. Anytime my husband and I kiss she gently comes in between us for cuddles!

We ask for your help. We’ll be eternally grateful if you can help us with her visits and second surgery!”

Frankie’s Friends is asking for your generosity to give Dakota a fighting chance. She is very loved, and very missed by her family. Please give what you can to help save Dakota’s life.

Any additional funds raised will be used to help treat other pets, like Dakota.
